  • Enhanced PowerPoint import: Graphics will now be imported into the SmartBuilder lesson that is generated from PowerPoint. Previously, only text was imported. Graphic smoothing has also been added to improve the appearance graphics, whether imported via PowerPoint or imported normally into SmartBuilder.
  • Menu with topics and pages: This object provides two level hierarchy - topics and pages. This also gives authors the capability to exclude pages from the menu. The existing menu object is still available for a flat menu structure (pages only).
  • Enhanced iFrame: iFrame objects can now link to assets (e.g. PDF file, HTML, etc.) that have been imported into SmartBuilder. These assets are packaged along with the lesson so you don't need to host them on a web server separately from the lesson. Here’s a related post on how to embed web resources using the iframe: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=413#p1247
  • Enhanced SWF Messenger: You can now use the SWF Messenger object to fire an event from a Flash/Captivate that can be detected in SmartBuilder to trigger actions. Please see viewtopic.php?f=7&t=409 for more information.
  • Convert variables: Local variables can be converted to global variables and vice versa. This saves you the time of having to create a new variable if you change your mind on how the variable should be used.
  • Embedded support chat: A link for live support chat has been added to the SmartBuilder interface.
  • Preview window scrollers: When the entire page is too large to be displayed in the preview window scrollers will now appear. Previously the window needed to be dragged to see parts that were hidden. This is especially useful for users with smaller resolution screens.
  • Short cut menu for shapes: Most common shapes (caption, background, arrow, check mark, x mark, circle) can now be insert from a short cut menu on the object palette.
  • AICC support: Additional download option for AICC packaging of content. Most of the run time tracking (e.g. for bookmarking, scoring, etc.) is set up the same way as it is for SCORM.
  • Misc. usability enhancements: Larger tabs for opening & closing the logic and design panels; when multiple objects are inserted on the stage they now tile rather than stack; default font size increased to 14; Align to page center vertically and horizontally added to the align menu; page controller colors and page count menu edited for improved usability; Media object name defaults to the file name in the library; default button label matches button name (e.g. "Button 3" vs "Button").

Embedding web resources using the iFrame

Postby Leif » Thu Dec 03, 2009 3:56 pm

****** What is written below is still accurate. However, in the Properties panel, there is a new Embed property that will allow you to paste the Embed code directly into the IFrame object! ******

In the overview, I show you how the new iFrame feature allows you to nicely embed web elements within your SmartBuilder lesson.

This post will provide you the steps on how to do so.

1. Create an .html document. If you do not have an .html editor like Dreamweaver, you can still do this. See the alternate approach using a notepad doc at the end of this post.
2. Copy your embed code. Embed code is found for common web-objects such as YouTube videos or Slideshare presentations.
3. Paste your embed code within the body of your html document and save it. (If not using an .html editor, reference the instructions above.)
4. Upload your .html document as an asset into SmartBuilder.
5. Specify your iFrame object to point to the internal asset.

Here's a quick video to show you the process:

-----To create an .html doc without an .html editor program-------
Just open up a notepad program and paste in this text:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "">
<html xmlns="">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<title>Untitled Document</title>

When you go to save this doc, you'll need to save it a bit differently than normal. Do a Save As and choose 'Save as type = all'. Then name your doc, and append '.html' after the name. This text doc will now be treated as an .html document.
