Problems with single swf output

Postby ayoub » Wed Sep 07, 2011 5:25 am

Hi,

i have a fairly simple lesson I'd like to use as a single .swf-file. When I open the file, two things don't work out as I hoped:

1. The background image stays on top, blocking everything. The only way to fix it is to insert the image as part of the master page, on bottom. No big deal for this lesson, but a bit strange nevertheless.
2. All of the drop shadows are gone, severely reducing the awesomeness of my lesson.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Ayoub

Hi Ayoub,
What organization are you with? We actually don't support single swf output anymore. Certain clients have asked us to leave the download option available to them, but it's no longer technically supported because it isn't able to do many things that the main download versions can.

Do you need to use the single SWF output?

Hi Nav,

Our company specialises in training (dutch-language) communication skills.

My plan is to make a lot of short, generic lessons in .swf and embed them on to our blog-type learning website. Usually as part of a blended learning course.

My aim is to be able to develop a personalised online course quickly. I want to do this by re-using generic Smartbuilder lessons for different customers. We then customise the course with instructional video and other media, tailor-made for our customer. Ideally, all of our trainers would be able to prepare an online course, by juggling the .swf's in to place, adding video, text, other media and some basic html fill-in-the-blanks excercises.

Having to embed more complex html-content makes this process more time-consuming, I'm afraid. And probably impossible to handle for our team of inspirational but slightly digitally impaired trainers.

So not being able to use the feature is a bit of a disappointment. I'm happy to hear any advice you may have!

Hi Ayoub,
I wouldn't think embedding HTML should be too difficult in this new age of IFrames. Here's a quick tutorial on it - http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/externalhtml.shtml

You'd upload the SmartBuilder package online somewhere, and point to the player.html file in the code.

You could even use SmartBuilder's Share option to host and generate the Embed or IFrame Embed code for you (though there is a bit of branding that comes with us hosting the lesson).

In your case, single SWF output would be nice, but the technologies that SmartBuilder is built on unfortunately don't support single SWF and the features that you want simultaneously.
