Alert boxes

Alert boxes

Postby mrbobbo » Tue Aug 16, 2011 1:05 pm

I had a helpful online chat with Nav (thank you) about how to simulate an alert box in SB. For example, to ask "are you sure" when resetting accumulated work, or to inform "please set the printer to Landscape mode when your browser's Page Setup dialog appear". The suggested solutions all involve creating a display, possibly with transparency, to cover the active controls on a page so that only the display's controls can be clicked. Although that sounded nice, in practice I ran up against the characteristic of master page elements that they appear on top of all page elements. So my Back button, which is on the master page, can't be either covered or rendered inactive by this approach. Also, there are graphics on my screen that live on the master page that have the same issue.

To solve this problem of mine, I'm going to have to create a new page for the alert, and I'm not happy about that. I hope developers think again about providing this capability in SB. Would save a lot of work.
