Button Grouping Demo, Please?

Postby bryantanner » Wed May 16, 2012 1:26 pm

Forward: After a year of being unable to login to this forum due to a deactivated account, I am finally back and ready to participate on the forum. I just figured out how to re-activate my account on the login screen. (I hope my account was timed out and not booted by an admin...)

Question: Nav and John have referenced grouping buttons for various reasons elsewhere on this forum. I wasn't aware that feature even existed until today. Could someone make a quick video demonstrating some of the uses of button grouping? Play/Pause toggling? Making quizzing easier?

Thanks.

Hi Bryan,
Don't make me ban you again... just kidding. I didn't think accounts timed out, so I'm not sure what happened to you.

Anyway, the Button Groups aren't nearly as glamorous as you make them sound. They are basically a way of making regular Buttons act like RadioButtons. Basically, one and only one Button can be selected at a time. Here's a quick video - http://screencast.com/t/2b7paHf5qnh0

Notice that one Button always has to be selected, even as soon as the page loads (so they're a little different from RadioButtons). A way around this is to place an extra Button off screen and change the Selected Property to true. Here's a video showing that - http://screencast.com/t/pcz3u7gmeom

Basically it's a light feature that is mostly used when you want multiple buttons to be your method of collecting a learner's selection. I supposed if you used it in conjunction with custom button graphics, it could be a pretty cool feature.
