Tracking and tracing with SiteCatalyst?

Postby markspermon » Thu Feb 14, 2013 3:27 am

We would like to implement SiteCatalyst for tracking and tracing user data. For example we would like to know how often severel buttons are pressed, how much time participants spend, etc. To implement SiteCatalyst we have to add javaScripts to the smartbuilder course.

For example:
<html> <head> ... </head> <body> ... <script language="javascript" src="wa_code.js?2012073010" type="text/javascript"></script> ... <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> wa.environment="test"; wa.pageName="Timeorange:July 2012:Homepage"; wa.pageTrack(); </script> ... </body> </html>

But where can we add this javascript and how can we trigger it by clicking on a button?
Any suggestions how this might work?

Hi Mark,
Erm, I haven't used SiteCatalyst before. Is it designed to work with Flash-based content in an HTML shell?

Typically when people want to track this sort of information outside an LMS, they build a script that lives on a server, and we can send calls from the SmartBuilder lesson to the script, which in turn records information on a database.

If you're using a 3rd party service, that may be a little different. We have a Google Analytics object that does some very similar things, and an SDK object was created to allow this functionality. Perhaps we'll have to do the same thing with this.

I think we need to learn more about SiteCatalyst and how it works to answer this.
