mailTo widget in HTML 5

I have created a very simple page to test the mailto widget before I create a full lesson that includes sending an email. The simple page works great when in SB but I want to export this as HTML for use on the web. I used the HTML 5 converter but now the mailto does not work. Am I doing something wrong or does mailto not work from an HTML page.

Hi Terry,
Great question! You can see which objects are supported by the HTML5 Converter on this page - http://help.smartbuilder.com/node/589

The Email Object is not one of them, unfortunately. However, mailto is a very simple concept, and you can set up a hyperlink to do much the same thing! Keep in mind that mailto will only launch the default email client, it will not automatically send an email.

If I wanted to create a simple mailto link, that's easy. Just put some text, a button, whatever on the page, and set the hyperlink (globe icon in the top right area) to mailto:support%40suddenlysmart.com Note that you cannot use the @ symbol, and must use %40 instead.

If you wanted to send along a subject or other information to the email client, you can add that in there using this format (%20 being spaces) - mailto:support%40suddenlysmart.com?subject=The%20subject%20of%20the%20mail

More info on what you can send with the mailto link can be found here - http://www.rapidtables.com/web/html/mailto.htm

You can try out my test here - http://examples.suddenlysmart.com/html5/mailto/

If you want to get really fancy, and send dynamic values in the subject or the body, this might be possible, but will require a post-production edit (I haven't tested it yet).
