Custom Hotspot Creation

I have been playing with the custom hotspot shapes for several days trying to get them to work and I think I finally made a breakthrough on how to create them successfully with consistency. I had been told that there was a known bug in the software that prevented the consistent creation of custom shape hotspots. That may be true, but there is a solid work around for it. I am going to describe what I did and you can vary from that as needed.

I used Adobe Illustrator CS4 to create the custom shapes. When making shapes with holes in them, I created a white shape on a blue shape and then create a compound path with them. For non-enclosed transparent areas, I just used the pen tool or a combination of simple shapes. The final piece has to be exported as a PNG-8 or PNG-24 (overkill) to preserve the transparency; however, if you export a simple shape from Illustrator as a PNG-8 at full size, you are going to get a graphic that is about 1-2K. That is too large for SmartBuilder to recognize and handle well. Before exporting the graphic, shrink it down to make the final PNG about .2-.3K, export the PNG, put it in SmartBuilder as a custom hotspot, then blow it back up to the desired size.

There you have it. I have tried this time and time again to make sure it wasn't just a fluke and it has worked beautifully every time.
