Multi-page template

Postby rwicker » Tue Dec 16, 2008 12:03 pm

Is it possible to create a multi-page template?

For example, we've modified the Jeopardy-style game example kindly provided by Suddenly Smart, and it has two pages that go together. If the pages exist as separate templates and one adds both to a lesson/course, one ends up with multiple variables with the same name with the exception of one version of each having parenthetical information that makes it unique.

Thank you,

Hi Rebecca,
The topic of templates and global variables, and whether or not they are actually the same variable, or two variables with the same name (and the question to overwrite them or not) was something we wrestled with when we first introduced the new template functionality. We'll be looking at it again in the next week or so. But I don't think we'll be implementing multiple page templates, since templates are applied to single pages, and that just opens up another logical can of worms that is more confusing than simply variables. So we'll get back to you on the question of global variables.

If you want a quick solution, you can always just set an action onLoad of the second page that sets all the 2nd page's variables to the values of the 1st page variables. And vice versa. It's not a perfect solution, but it works for simple data being passed between pages, like a score or a text value. Hope this helps.
